All About Academy Of Graphic Technologies

Academy of Graphic Technologies – AGT started to open its door in July 2000 in association with West Herts College in the United Kingdom, a leading printing college, with an enviable international reputation for education and training.

A three-month Electronic Publishing Foundation course and a class equipped with 14 Macintosh computers was an immediate success with a fully booked attendance. APT rapidly consolidated its position and added graphics design computer courses and printing education.

In 2003, with West Herts College support, AGT was accredited by BTEC/ Edexcel UK through their International Links to deliver their vocational courses at Diploma level. As a result in the rise of student intake and industry requirement, we expanded our resources and changed our name to Academy of Graphic Technologies, known as AGT, to reflect the present trend in graphic communication. In 2006 we introduce a Higher National Diploma level. Within the span of three years, AGT upgraded from a C level establishment to an A level owing to its quality education endeavour.
In addition to BTEC, AGT is registered under the Ministry of Technical Education in Kenya and the Directorate of Industrial Training.

Solid foundation

This demanding task is been made possible by the enthusiastic and dedicated support of both the management and staff. AGT has been fortunate to have gathered a team of enthusiastic and seasoned lecturers with solid exposure in both teaching and work experience. From the onset, an intensive staff development policy has been implemented in anticipation of the task ahead.

Since them the college has grown tremendously and is currently running over seventy Macintosh OS X computers in addition to PC for its Cyber Café facilities. All are net worked to various peripherals such as scanners, printers and video projectors.

Environment

The College is conveniently situated on Maasai Road off Mombasa Road, on the way to the East Entrance of the National Park. The college occupies one end of a three-floor building complex accommodating 3 computer labs, 5 class rooms, lecturers’ rooms, library, Internet Cyber Café and offices. It boasts a friendly and conducive environment. The college shares the spacious compound with four leading print companies giving the students the opportunity to gain an insight into the extent and sophistication of the graphic media industry. Few centre of learning in the world if any can enjoy such special arrangement.

Courses

Presently AGT programme covers long courses at Diploma and Higher Diploma level, 15 weeks medium range courses at foundation or advanced levels and short specialised courses on demand such as seminars for professionals.
While the bulk of students are from Kenya, others are from Tanzania, Uganda and as fare as Zambia, Mauritius Island and India for which we process student pass, assist at arrival and with accommodation.

Opportunities

Since its inception, over eight hundred students have attended APT classes from various walks of life. They range from school leavers, privately motivated print professionals or sponsored by organizations.
Along the years we have developed constructive relations with the local graphic business community thanks to the quality of our training. Such good will opens excellent opportunities for industrial attachment and employment. Upon completion of their courses, our students have been absorbed by the job market or have moved on to pursue further education. The University of Coventry in UK, with which we have formed a strong link, offers such opportunities.
