Mount Kenya University Graduation List 2013, Mount Kenya University class of Bachelor of Business and information Technology Celebrate after conferment, during Mount Kenya University 5th Graduation Ceremony at Thika graduation Pavilion yesterday.

Mount Kenya University on Friday 6th Dec held the 5th Graduation Ceremony at the proposed MKU Main Campus at Landless/Happy valley estate just opposite the 12th Engineer Battalion of the Thika – Garissa Highway. More than 12000 Graduate was awarded with Certificates , Diplomas and conferment of Degree.

Speaking at the Ceremony, the Chancellor Mount Kenya University Prof Wulsin said Mount Kenya University had become a true beacon of education through practical interactions with international universities. “The globalization of Mount Kenya University will enhance the education of Mount Kenya University students through research, service-learning, and foreign exchanges.Mount Kenya University has done exactly this, first with the University of Cincinnati, and now with Xavier University. We have already begun faculty exchanges. A number of Xavier and University of Cincinnati faculty will team up with Mount Kenya University counterparts in various academic and research projects. The research partnerships will be geared towards generating findings that will be used for policy formulation and implementation in this great country.”

The Pro Chancellor Prof Chacha Nyaigotti noted that the cost of University Education needs to be addressed and there is also a need for the government to increase the beneficiaries of Higher Education Loans Board to give more students an equal opportunity to access Higher Education. “Mount Kenya University has put in place measures that will increase access to University Education. For example the Fees are relatively low and payment schedules flexible. It has also rolled out a four (4) years scholarship awards scheme worth 40 million shillings which means that every Academic Year the University will award scholarships worth 10million to needy students with outstanding academic potential. In the Academic Year 2013/14, the University has already awarded 15 students with scholarships worth Kshs 9,852,000. 

These students are drawn from all over the Country and have been admitted to pursue courses of their choice in the various Schools and departments. Mount Kenya University envisions a country whose people have universal tertiary education. We have gone a long way in providing access to tertiary education by establishing a footprint in almost every county in Kenya and expanding the existing facilities. I would like to reiterate our commitment to continuously produce the requisite human capital for national and regional development.” He said.
Prof. Grace N. Njoroge who is the Chairperson University Council noted that MKU had remained the most preferred University and a premier institution of higher learning in East Africa. “The backbone of our success has been providing the necessary physical and human resources. We have created an enabling environment for realization of our Vision, which is to be a centre of Excellence in training, research and innovation in Science & Technology in Africa. Since the award of the University Charter, students’ enrolment has continued on an upward trend at all levels of training being an indicator of the preference of MKU as a university of choice.”

The Vice Chancellor congratulated all the graduands for their great academic achievements.  He highlighted five keys areas that form the backbone of the Mount Kenya University excellence, the key pillars that guide our mission.
