Strathmore University Bcom, the Bachelor of Commerce degree prepares students to work in the area of management, finance, accountancy, banking, micro-finance, administration, marketing and other related fields.

The course is structured to reflect the changing world of commerce and to equip its learners with the necessary skills, ethical principles and general knowledge needed for decision-making in a contemporary business environment.

BCOM – ACCA Embedded Programme

The embedded programme is a unique strategic opportunity for students of Strathmore University to achieve both ACCA and the Bachelor of Commerce degree simultaneously. This means that the students taking Bachelor of Commerce in Strathmore University will also register to be ACCA students from first year and have full access to ACCA learning resources. They will earn ACCA exemptions progressively such that by the time they are in 3rd year they will only need to sit for 5 ACCA exams to gain the ACCA professional qualification. The students on this programme are entitled to preferential financial incentives on their ACCA fees and have preferential access to a network of ACCA approved employers.

Partnership with ACCA

Strathmore’s partnership with ACCA seeks to provide a unique strategic opportunity and an educational support framework for students of Strathmore University to achieve the highest professional standards in their professional development for a career in accounting, business leadership and commercial finance. To facilitate, encourage progression and further students’ educational development, ACCA and Strathmore University offer a unique ACCA embedded Bachelor of Commerce degree programme with special incentives. Those who derive maximum benefits, will:

  • Be ACCA students from first year and have full access to ACCA learning resources
  • Earn ACCA exemptions progressively, as they take their Bachelor of Commerce exams
  • Be entitled to preferential financial incentives on their ACCA fees
  • Be entitled to preferential access to a network of ACCA approved employers

The Strathmore BCOM Programme offers many areas of specialization including: Finance, Accounting, Human Resource, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Management Science. The benefits derived from the partnership with ACCA will apply for students whose majors are Finance and/or Accounting.

Accounting Option

This option equips students with the necessary skills to support managers in decision making, controlling and planning. Students learn how to use accounting information to communicate clearly and effectively and are equipped with the practical skills to work in financial acounting, management accounting, auditing and taxation. For students who choose Accounting as a major, the ACCA partnership will apply.

Finance Option

This option covers each of the major areas of modern finance and thus covers issues such as funds management, risk management, corporate finance and financial instruments and valuation. The students may be employed in investment management firms, in the financial sector and in the finance departments of large corporations. For students who choose Finance as a major, the ACCA partnership will apply.

Our Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • KCSE aggregate C+
  • IGCSE six B’s including Mathematics and English and A level 2 principal passes and 1 subsidiary pass
  • O-Level six B’s including Mathematics and English and IB 25 points with 4 points in mathematics and 5 points in English
  • A distinction in the Strathmore Entrance Exam
  • Proven leadership skills in school and community and outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities are an added advantage

All candidates meeting the entry requirements are required to sit the University Entrance Examination in English and Mathematics and an oral interview.

Interviews are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 am.

Candidates are required to bring originals and copies of relevant academic certificates, 2 passport size photographs, a photocopy of birth certificate or National ID or passport and Ksh1,800 entrance exam fee.

Intake for the full-time programme is in March and June.
Intake for the evening programme is May and September.
