Strathmore University Economics, Strathmore School of Finance and Applied Economics continues to ensure that students receive the highest standards of education with a global perspective on Finance, Economics and Research. In light of this, we have partnered with one of Spain’s most prestigious universities- the University of Navarra, to come up with a comprehensive summer school programme.
On 25th March 2017, twenty-three students will travel to the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain for 15 days, to further develop their research skills as well as improve their knowledge and understanding of development Economics.
The students will participate in a Development Research Workshop by the Navarra Center for International Development (NCID). The center comprises of an interdisciplinary team of economists, political scientists, sociologists and more, who strive to alleviate extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. They focus on three interrelated themes: technology transfer, migration, and institutional development as ways to exit extreme poverty. The students will get an opportunity to learn from a number of the best lecturers from the faculty in development economics.
The students will also have an opportunity to showcase their research proposals, obtain guidance on how to analyze data with softwares such as STATA, while enjoying lectures on various topics.
Some of the topics to be discussed will include; the methods and technics on policy evaluation that are used currently in the development economics literature; the role of history, institutions, and geography in development; time series analysis applied to developing countries; international technology transfer and foreign investment; labor markets and business cycles; natural resource curse and human capital; women’s market performance and the relationship between work-family preferences, among others.
Moreover, the students are looking forward to interacting with students from the University of Navarra and hope to share knowledge and acquire an understanding of the Spanish culture. These interactions will lead to formation of partnerships that will enable both parties benefit from each other in the future. The students are excited and ready to have an extra ordinary experience.
