technical university of mombasa riots, the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has been closed indefinitely following protracted student demonstrations that started on Monday, sparked by failure by the Engineering Board of Kenya to accredit the university’s engineering courses this year.

The university’s senate, through a  memo issued today, said it had become impossible to continue normal university activities at the college, based within the city centre. The demonstrations continued until today when students became rowdy and forcing police intervention.

EBK released a public notice showinf engineering courses that have been accredited and the universities in which they are offered,  leaving out many engineering courses offered by various Universities in Kenya. Among the affected Universities are Technical University of Kenya (TUK), Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

Last year, a similar thing happened and students from various universities including TUM and TUK went to streets in protest. The fate of many engineering students remains in the balance.
